Knee injuries & surgery
The knee is the largest and most complex joint in the body. It is therefore not surprising that more people attend doctors with knee problems than with any other single joint.
The knee is dependent on the capsule and ligaments for stability, menisci (cartilage) as shock absorbers and the joint surfaces (articular cartilage) for smooth, painfree movement.
Prone to both overuse injuries and traumatic injuries as well as a range of osteoarthritic conditions the knee is subject to a wide range of soft tissue injuries to the ligaments, capsule and menisci as well as osteoarthritic conditions.
Glasgow Sports Surgery Service has two surgeons, Colin Walker and Bill Leach, who specialise, almost exclusively, in knee conditions in both their NHS and private practices. We believe that, given the complexity of the knee, it is important we are able to specialise , almost exclusively, in a range of knee injuries and conditions. This level of specialisation ensures that we have the comprehensive experience to offer patients beat practice in what can be extremely complex conditions.
